Through our TV broadcast, I have been teaching on the importance of being God’s student in the programs entitled Teach Me and Lead Me. The blessing of God in our lives can be hindered or accelerated by our obedience to follow God’s teaching.

Isaiah 48:17-19 GNT

17 The holy God of Israel, the Lord who saves you, says: “I am the Lord your God, the one who wants to teach you for your own good and direct you in the way you should go.

18 “If only you had listened to my commands! Then blessings would have flowed for you like a stream that never goes dry. Victory would have come to you like the waves that roll on the shore.

19 Your descendants would be as numerous as grains of sand, and I would have made sure they were never destroyed.”

The Lord will always advance us in life by His teaching. He will never diminish or set our lives back by the knowledge and wisdom He provides. The activation of the blessing and the path to victory are contained in the instructions of God. Every one of us can be better students of God’s knowledge and principles.

Although we may want to gain more wisdom and understanding, it is not automatic. We must discipline ourselves to learn and grow, and hearing is the first discipline to master.

Proverbs 1:5

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

According to God’s Word, hearing increases learning. But this goes beyond just a natural hearing. This is what Jesus was referring to when He said, “Who hath ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 13:9). Seven times in the Book of Revelation Jesus said, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches….”

As a mom, I learned to tune out the chatter of my kids when they were younger. But when they became teenagers, I could pick up their conversations when they lowered their voices to plan something covertly on the phone with a friend. My level of hearing was enhanced by my interest in hearing.

Jesus taught us the value of hearing with our attention and focus activated.

Mark 4:24 (AMPC)

24 And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear

Proverbs said the wise man will hear and learning will increase. Jesus said we can determine the measure of knowledge we receive based on the measure of attention we give to His teaching. God’s Word is light to our path and His wisdom is designed to lead us into His best.

Proverbs 4:10-13

10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

Our adversary knows this truth and attempts to sabotage us every day with reports of fear, doom, and gloom. But we aren’t obligated to listen to every report. Instead, we are authorized to turn our focus on the report of the Lord, which is a report of health, stability, protection, and victory!
