I want to share a truth with you that you can apply to ANY and EVERY situation in your life and see them change. When you become skilled in applying this truth, you can see adverse, hopeless, negative situations turn to your advantage.

What is the life-altering truth? How can we turn things in our lives? Let me explain by showing you what God’s Word says in Isaiah 55:11.

Isaiah 55:11 AMPC

11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

One day, I was studying this verse when the Lord spoke to my heart, saying, “I want you to have this same attitude and confidence about My Word in your mouth.” The Lord challenged me to expect His Word to go forth from my mouth and accomplish His will. He directed me to expect the Word to work for me with the same effectiveness and results that it produces for Him. He told me to say, “The words I speak won’t return to me empty! My words will work and prosper.

This confidence is God’s desire for every one of His children. The Lord wants us to work His Word skillfully, establishing God’s will in our finances, marriages, and families. God wants His Word to work for us as we resist the devil and execute authority over the curse. God’s Word in our mouths should be equal to God’s Word in His mouth.

Jeremiah 1:9-10 AMPC

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

10 See, I have this day appointed you to the oversight of the nations and of the kingdoms to root out and pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

How was Jeremiah supposed to manage the situation, rooting out, pulling down, overthrowing? God put His Words in Jeremiah’s mouth. God appointed Jeremiah to change the situation and supplied him with words to effect that change.

The same is true in the life of every believer. The Lord provides us with the ability and authority to speak His Word over every area of our lives. If change needs to occur, God’s Word is available. If sickness is trespassing in your body, it needs to be resisted, and God’s Word is on stand-by. All you need to do is load 1 Peter 2:24 into your heart and mouth and inject it into your situation.

Sadly, many Christians are letting their situation direct the course of their life. How does that happen? They say what they see and speak whatever their situation says. For instance, the financial situation says they are limited. Then, they say, “I can’t afford new tires. I can’t afford a new battery. I can’t afford…” If we speak what the situation says, we establish what the situation says, and we will continue to have more of what we are saying.

That is backward! The believer is designed to say what we believe, regardless of what we see. This is how we turn what we see. Begin to see your words as powerful tools to produce change. We turn the situation with our words.

James 3:3-5

If we set bits in the horses’ mouths to make them obey us, we can turn their whole bodies about.

Likewise, look at the ships: though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and it can boast of great things. See how much wood or how great a forest a tiny spark can set ablaze!

When verse 5 says, “Even so the tongue…,” it identifies the fact that the tongue works likes a bit in the mouth of the horse or the rudder that steers a ship. Many people don’t think the words they speak matter. They haven’t realized that the words they have spoken have directed things that have happened. A forest fire starts as a small flame. But when the fire is blazing, destroying acres of trees, they don’t think about the match that started the fire.

Even though the tongue is small, it produces great things—good and bad. According to Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue….” You can choose to strike the match of healing, wholeness, peace, or strength by speaking God’s Word. If you continually speak God’s Word, the “forest fire” will be a godly one, producing God’s effect on the situation. But if someone speaks the situation, striking the match of doubt, fear, lack, or sickness, they will soon have a raging fire of destruction in their lives. Sadly, they may never recognize that the words they spoke authorized the destruction.

You and I are going to be purposeful in our words. We will choose God’s Word and verbally strike the match to activate God’s plan. My friend, turn the situation by authorizing God’s Word to govern the outcome.
