One of the things I have discovered in my study of who we are and what belongs to us IN CHRIST is this: We are heirs of the BLESSING of God. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price to redeem us from the curse and connect us to the BLESSING. But the Bible warns us not to be slothful about inheriting the blessing of God. Instead, we are responsible for using our faith and patience to receive the BLESSING we have inherited.

Hebrews 6:11-15 (NKJV)

11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end,

12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”

15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Did you notice that verse 11 speaks of diligence to maintain a “full assurance of hope?” The description this verse provides is one of expectation. We don’t have a desperate “I hope God will provide” attitude. Instead, we have an assurance that expects the BLESSING to work to our advantage. For instance, when we pull up to the gas pump, we are focused on the supply of the BLESSING instead of the increase in the gas prices. We are assured and confident that the addition and multiplication in the system of God are in operation.

The next verse holds another valuable key. In verse 12, the Word of God instructs us, “…do not become sluggish….” The word sluggish means “lazy.” Other translations use the words slothful, lazy, spiritually dullindifferent, or slow. Sometimes, the daily affairs of life can move us into a “holding pattern.” For example, when the air traffic controllers are organizing the planes to land on certain runways, they may need to ask a plane to circle the airport until the runway is available for them to land. That plane is moving and expending fuel but not advancing. They are waiting.

We aren’t waiting for God to BLESS us! We are already blessed according to Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Galatians 3:9 says, “So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”

Our faith will activate and put the BLESSING in motion in our lives. So, where do we begin? First, we build our faith in the BLESSING until we have a clear inner picture of our lives in the flow of God’s BLESSING. I have used Deuteronomy 28:1-4 to help me do this. When I read the description of how the BLESSING works in every area of our lives, it allows me to see how far-reaching God’s goodness can be. We put the BLESSING description in our eyes and listen to preaching about God’s desire to increase and multiply us. Faith will come!

Secondly, we begin to speak and act in line with the BLESSING. When faith reaches a place of fullness, our hearts will overflow with words of confidence and expectation. We won’t worry about lacking or struggling financially because our hearts will be assured that God’s BLESSING is working in our situation. If doubt comes against our minds, we take the thought captive and declare the Word.

Next, we develop patience. The Word of God IS working if we are working it. Don’t let the process of time pressure you into asking, “Why isn’t it working?” You may have to reinforce your faith with your words by saying, “I have given! It IS given unto me—good measure, pressed down, and shaken together. God is causing my harvest to come back to me.”

Remember that God cannot lie. He declared the BLESSING as a promise and then swore it by an oath, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” He established the BLESSING with the promise and the oath to demonstrate to us that this will not change.

We can depend on the BLESSING to work in our lives because we are heirs of God. Galatians 3:29 says, “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” We have studied our position IN CHRIST for weeks to help you establish who you are IN HIM. Faith in our position IN CHRIST is required to obtain the promised BLESSING.

We can inherit the BLESSING that is in our redemption. In Christ, Volume Two covers 12 lessons that focus on our covenant provisions, including divine healing, the BLESSING, and our inheritance.
